Walking tour at the vineyard village of Provesende that will take you to a journey between the past and the present.

Here we find an old Pillory of the sixteenth century, an 18th century baroque Parish Church and a Fountain from the same century. 

We will also see several manor houses that attest the economic power of this wine-growing village.

Casal de Loivos Viewpoint

This stop is located in one of the most beautiful viewpoints of the Alto Douro Vinhateiro, elected a UNESCOs World Heritage site in 2001.

From here you can enjoy a landscape full of vineyards. In addition to the vineyards, other elements such as mountains, fields and villages stand out. The rich fauna and flora also stand out in this location.

Olive Oil Mill - Olive Oil Museum (Optional)

This olive mill, transformed into a museum, allows you to understand the traditional method of olive oil production, which is another important product from the Douro Region.

On this road you will cross the Douro valley always accompanied by the Douro River and taking advantage of its breath-taking views.

Peso da Régua Metal Bridge

The metal bridge was built in 1872 by King D. Luís I for road crossing of the Douro River and was deactivated since 1949 due to the state of degradation of the wooden board.

The initial project belongs to engineer W. Liebe, and was later changed by engineer Johann Gaspar Harkort and the construction work was under the guidance of German engineer Wilherm Dulhener from the Eifel team.

Peso da Régua City

Peso da Régua had its great development after 1756 with the creation of the Real Companhia Geral da Agricultura das Vinhas do Alto Douro (Royal Company of Vine-Growers from the Alto Douro Region), which set up the world's first ever demarcated region for wine production.

Situated on the banks of the River Douro, Peso da Régua played a fundamental role in the production and sale of Port wine, for it was from here that the barrels were transported in the special boats known as Barcos Rabelos to Vila Nova de Gaia, where the wine is left to age in the local wine cellars.

São Pedro Viewpoint (Optional)

The viewpont of São Pedro is located at an elevated location - 442m altitude - and at the top of the mountain the visitor can contemplate a beautiful chapel, Peso da Régua city and several parishes of the municipality of Santa Marta.

São Leonardo da Galafura Viewpoint (Optional)

The viewpoint of S. Leonardo is one of the most beautiful in the entire Douro region and even served as inspiration for who is considered one of the greatest Portuguese writers of the twentieth century, Miguel Torga.

From this location you can glimpse the Douro valley. The river, in the background, running slowly to the mouth, the rough slopes, the sharp peaks, and the verdant of the nearest vineyards, which try to disguise the prevailing ash.
