Puntarenas is one of the most important tourist regions in Costa Rica. Its coasts are beautified by abundant islands, coves, beaches and natural treasures of great beauty, which make it a tourist destination par excellence. Its territory offers a wide variety of attractions based on the sun and the beach, which are completed with protected areas, insular and continental areas.
Puntarenas is a canton located in the Province of Puntarenas, on the central Pacific coast of Costa Rica. The canton has an area of 862.46 km² and a population of over 145,000. The capital city is also called Puntarenas.
Puntarenas is one of the most touristically developed areas in Costa Rica. The city has a wide variety of hotels and restaurants, as well as many shops catering to tourists. Puntarenas is also a gateway to some of Costa Rica’s most popular tourist destinations, such as Jacó, Manuel Antonio National Park, and the Ballena Marine National Park.
Puntarenas has a tropical climate, with an average temperature of 27 degrees Celsius (80.6 degrees Fahrenheit). The rainy season runs from May to November, and the dry season from December to April.
