Ria Formosa Boat Tour: 1 Hour with Deserted Beach Stop
Discover the lagoon, islands, and wild beaches of Ria Formosa from the water
This Ria Formosa boat tour takes you through the barrier islands and calm lagoon waters surrounding Fuzeta, with a dedicated stop at the secluded Homem Nu Beach. The skipper acts as your personal guide, sharing local knowledge and history throughout the journey. Binoculars and an illustrated brochure are provided so you can make the most of the scenery.
Fuzeta is one of the lesser-known villages of the Algarve, yet it carries a rich fishing heritage and a distinctive architectural identity. Its cubic houses, flat rooftops, and balloon-shaped chimneys reflect a vernacular style unique to this stretch of coastline. With just under 2,000 permanent residents, the village transforms in summer as visitors arrive to enjoy its beaches and the calm waters of the ria.
The tour departs from Fuzeta and navigates through the channel separating the mainland from Fuzeta Island, passing both the New and Old Bay Beaches before anchoring at the lagoon known as Homem Nu Beach. The 15-minute stop allows you to step ashore, feel the sand underfoot, and appreciate the undisturbed character of this protected natural area.
Ria Formosa is a designated natural park spanning over 18,000 hectares along the eastern Algarve coast. Its network of tidal channels, salt marshes, and sandy barriers supports a remarkable variety of birdlife and marine species. A short boat tour is one of the most direct ways to experience this ecosystem without disturbing its balance.

Itinerary
The tour begins at the waterfront in Fuzeta, a compact fishing village at the mouth of the Troncos brook. Your skipper will brief the group and hand out binoculars and brochures before setting off.
The boat heads toward Fuzeta Island, a barrier island within the natural park. The island lost its small settlement of seasonal houses to a storm in 2010 and now hosts only a few seasonal snack bars.
The route continues along the inland side of the island, passing the New and Old Bay Beaches. The skipper provides context on the tidal dynamics and wildlife of the area.
The tour anchors at the lagoon area commonly known as Homem Nu Beach. Guests can disembark and spend approximately 15 minutes on this sheltered, largely undeveloped beach.
The boat returns to the departure point in Fuzeta, completing the one-hour circuit through the ria. The skipper is available for questions during the return leg.
