The Northern Lights, also known as Aurora Borealis, are best observed under dark, clear skies. To enhance your chances of witnessing this captivating natural phenomenon, join us on a thrilling winter cruise away from the city lights. The optimal time to experience the Northern Lights in Reykjavík is from September until the end of April. Immerse yourself in the breathtaking display as the lights constantly change in intensity, color, and movement against the vast starry backdrop, while the gentle lull of the ocean adds to the enchantment.
Hunting the auroras from a boat provides added comfort, ensuring an enjoyable excursion. Our vessel features heated inside areas, an onboard café, and a panoramic 360° viewing platform, offering you the best possible views. Accompanied by our expert aurora guides, who are passionate about sharing their knowledge, you’ll receive information about the auroras and have all your questions answered. Additionally, our guides capture stunning pictures during the tour, which you can request by email after your return. To keep you warm during the cruise, we provide overalls for your convenience, but don’t forget to bring a hat and gloves.
Upon arrival at our ticket office, you will exchange your pre-paid voucher for boarding tickets. Our friendly expert guide will then welcome you to our Visitor Centre, situated on board an old fishing vessel permanently stationed at the pier. From there, we will set sail into the dark blue yonder of Faxaflói bay, departing from the bright lights of Reykjavík, the northernmost capital in the world, in search of the mystical auroras.
As the Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon, we cannot guarantee their appearance. However, as professional aurora hunters with years of experience in the Reykjavík area, we strive to maximize your chances of witnessing this awe-inspiring spectacle. The optimal conditions for an aurora pursuit include solar activity, clear skies, and darkness. While many other tour operators cancel their tours if the weather forecast is unfavorable, we remain committed to giving it our best shot. We understand that time is precious during your visit, and weather conditions can change rapidly. Our searching area, located close to shores and around small islands, is far enough from city lights to ensure a smooth and comfortable sailing experience.
In the event that the Northern Lights do not make an appearance during your tour, we do not refund the tour price. However, we offer you the opportunity to try again on another day at no extra cost. You are welcome to join us multiple times within a two-year period to catch the captivating show and create unforgettable memories of the Aurora Borealis.
