Departure and Arrival point
The uninhabited utopic island of Alimia, located among Rhodes and Chalki in the Dodecanese island complex. The island of Alimia belongs to the Municipality of Chalki and is included in the European Network NATURA 2000. Its natural sheltered bays, of Agios Georgios in the south and Emporeiou in the east, provide a safe haven with crystal clear waters for small boats, which are renowned among sailors who wish to plan a day trip in the area for fishing, swimming or even hiking.
Participants will also have the chance to visit the uninhabited, since the 1940s, Agios Georgios settlement located by the bay.
Furthermore, the church of Agios Minas as well as the army barracks, which were built during the Italian occupation of the Dodecanese Islands (1912-1943), are also worth a visit.
The highest view point of the island (269m above sea level), which used to be a fortress during the Hellenistic Period, is where the Knights of Rhodes’ Island built a Medieval Castle in 1475 and its remains still lay there through time. Moreover, in Emporeiou Bay there are Roman Tombs, foundations of a shipyard dating back to the Hellenistic Period and an early Christian Basilica.
