Lisbon Food And Cultural Tour – Join us on this food and cultural walking tour to experience authentic Portuguese cuisine. We’ll explore the oldest neighborhoods in Lisbon, Alfama and Mouraria, and visit the city’s most famous monument, the medieval fortification São Jorge Castle.
This tour starts with some delicious petiscos (it’s the Portuguese name for tapas) in a hidden place in the downtown. The 1755 earthquake damaged the downtown district, which was rebuilt with beautiful squares such as Rossio and Praça do Comércio, arranged in a grid pattern.
After that, we will head to Mouraria (the old Moorish neighborhood), the most multicultural area of the city. It’s the right spot to taste the Indian and African influence in our cuisine. The Moors arrived in Lisbon in the early 8th century, but they were forced to live in a different part of Lisbon after 1147.
Then we’ll take a break from food and visit the São Jorge Castle (entrance ticket of €10 included). It’s the most visited monument in Portugal and a famous medieval and well-protected fortification. You’ll have a guided visit and the opportunity to enjoy outstanding views over Lisbon and the river Tejo (Tagus).
After this, let’s get lost in the narrow streets of Alfama and taste more genuine Portuguese food. Alfama is the soul of Lisbon, a magical place with hidden courtyards, pitched rooftops and labyrinthine alleyways.
