We will then depart from the capital area and venture into the valley of Mosfellsdalur. This lush and scenic lowland, despite its close proximity to the capital, is often forgotten by the locals. The picturesque valley is the perfect countryside getaway, where travelers can enjoy golfing, horse riding, sightseeing or hiking.
Next up is Mosfellsheiði where you experience an extensive moorland area between the Mosfellssveit district and the lake Þingvallavatn. A shield–volcano from a warm period of the ice age, covered by basalt lava, some of which also reached the Reykjavík area.
Are you a fan of Game of Thrones ? Þórufoss is next up, The waterfall makes up part of the 25 km (16 mi) river Laxá í Kjós which renowned for its healthy population of Atlantic salmon. The waterfall is not as well-known as other waterfalls in the country, so it lacks extensive signage.
Þórufoss is known to freeze over in the winter time. HBO’s Game of Thrones used the waterfall as a shooting location, portraying it as the home of the Children of the Forest.
Next up is Hvalfjordur where the landscape is varied and beautiful, with wide areas of flat land along majestic mountains, green vegetation in summer and beaches cut with creeks.
In Hvalfjordur you find the beautiful bay called Hvammsvik, which offers eight natural hot springs of various temperatures on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. The temperatures of the pools vary from ocean temperatures (around 10 °C) to even 42 °C in some natural hot springs. There’s also a steam bath and outdoor showers located within the complex. Hvammsvik also offers their legendary seafood soup and drinks.
As the hot springs are located on the Atlantic Ocean, the water level fluctuates depending on the time of day. This provides you with a unique and ever-changing experience.
After the quality time and relaxation in the hot spring, our driver takes you back to your drop off location.
