We offer a 2-hour whale watching tour on a speedy RIB boat from the harbor of Húsavík The Whale Capital of Iceland!

Big Whales & Puffins – Get your warm clothes and get ready down at Húsavík harbor! Included is an expert whale watching guide, a captain on board, warm water-resistant overall suit and a life vest. Bring your hats and gloves with you – the bay can be pretty cold!

The tour begins with a sail to the beautiful Skjálfandi bay. There are many whale species that are known to be accommodated in Skjálfandi bay. For example, the Humpback whale, the Minke whale, dolphins and porpoises.
The speedy RIB boats make it more likely to have a close encounter with the giants, being able to drive huge amounts of miles in the trip. Also, with only 12 passengers or fewer on board, the competition for the best view on board is certainly eliminated.

Among places we’ll see is Lundey (Puffin Island) *, known for its great amount of the popular bird. Passengers will also see the Tjörnes peninsula, known for its fossil layers with the most ancient one being two million years old!

IMPORTANT NOTE! Puffin season is ca. 1st May-20th August. Outside that time of the year our tours are Big Whales exclusive!

Our company offers a unique experience for travelers in Iceland.
We currently offer whale watching and breathtaking nature experience sailing trips on fast RIB boats at Skjálfandi Bay outside Húsavík.
Húsavík is known as the Whale Capital of Iceland and is located in the northern part of the country on the eastern shore of Skjálfandi Bay.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The tour begins with a sail to the beautiful Skjálfandi bay. There are many whale species that are known to be accommodated in Skjálfandi bay. For example, the Humpback whale, the Minke whale, dolphins and porpoises.

Floatation overall, lifevest, raincoat and rubber boots if needed.

  • Gloves or hats are not provided, even though we have a few extra in case of need. 
  • We are not allowed to provide seasickness pills.

What do I need to bring?

  • The floatation overalls will keep you warm but still good to be dressed in warm clothing because it can be cold at sea.
  • Gloves and a hat are highly recommended.

Where can I find your ticket office
Our ticket office can be found in the Whale Watching Centre shared with North Sailing just across the street from the unique Húsavík church. You really can’t miss it! When you have checked in at the ticket office you will be directed to Húsavík Adventures’s dressing room.
Can I cancel the tour and get a refund?
Reservations that are cancelled more than 24 hours before departure will be fully refunded. Cancellations less than 24 hours before departure will be charged half price.

All tours are dependent on the nature. Weather and sea conditions are different every day, therefore we reserve the right to change or cancel scheduled departures, this is for your safety as a passenger. If the weather causes that we need to cancel or change scheduled departure all customers receive a full refund or can book another trip depending on availability.
What is the best time to go whalewatching?
Whales can be spotted equally throughout the day. Although every tour is different from the other, there’s equal chance for a great show at any given hour.

How about the whales behavior?

It ain’t so different between separate parts of the day. After all they spend their time mostly feeding.
What happens if I don't see a whale during the tour?
All Whale Watching trips are dependent on the wild nature of Skjálfandi Bay and as we know, nature is unpredictable. The chances of seeing whales are overwhelming with up to 99% rate of seeing whales during trips over the last years.

In the rare cases of no sightings (dolphins included), passengers get a “Return ticket”. That means that customers of the tour can return in the future (even the next tour depending on availability) for a free tour.

We do not refund tickets if no whales and/or dolphins are seen on the tour.
How should I dress for a whale watching tour?
We provide warm water resistant overall suit and a life vest before going on board. It can be pretty cold in the bay, so wearing warm clothes underneath the suit is necessary. Hats, gloves and good shoes should also be worn.
