What Will You Do

Golden Circle Glacier & Northern Lights, afternoon tour

GOLDEN CIRCLE GLACIER & NORTHERN LIGHTS, AFTERNOON TOUR THINGVELLIR NATIONAL PARK - Greet your new friends as our driver and guide welcome you on board our special Super Jeep. Pick-up can be arranged at your hotel or accommodations in Iceland at 13:00. If you have chosen the snowmobile option, departure is 11:00.

Our first stop is Thingvellir National Park, home of Iceland’s ancient parliament. We’ll spend about 20 minutes walking through the park to experience the dramatic mid-Atlantic ridge where the 9000-year old lava field splits apart. This is a natural phenomenon demonstrating the continental drift between North America and EuroAsia. We’ll have the opportunity to view more lava fields on the hills above Laugarvatn as we head east on the mountain road Lyngdalsheiði.

GEYSIR GEYSER, GULLFOSS WATERFALL - Approaching the home of the great Strokkur geyser in the geothermal area of Haukadalur, you’ll likely be able to see an eruption every 5 to 7 minutes. Spouting boiling hot water into the air at heights of approximately 25 to 30 meters, we’ll stop here to enjoy one of nature’s greatest shows while exploring the hot springs. We’ll also pause at the epic Gullfoss waterfall: a two-tiered drop into the white Hvita river, flowing with glacial-waters. Then we’ll be navigating the famous Kjölur interior mountain road, a part of Iceland since its earliest settlements and often a major role in Icelandic sagas. It’s also the second longest route through the Highlands.

THE SECOND LARGEST GLACIER LANGJÖKULL - We’ve come to see the second largest glacier in the country, Langjökull. In the summer, we’ll drive onto the glacier; in the winter, snowmobile activities take place either on or next to the glacier, depending on conditions. The snowmobile option allows for an extra hour to explore (or longer, if requested).

LOBSTER FEAST INCLUDED After a very busy afternoon, a lobster feast awaits us in the seaside town of Stokkseyri, on the south coast. Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time for the grand finale: the Northern Lights dancing in the sky, one of the world’s most incredible shows! We’ll stop to drink in the performance before going home.

NORTHERN LIGHTS DANCING IN THE SKY - Heading towards Reykjavík after dinner we drive through the mountain plateau area of Hellisheiði. Ascending to the Hellisheiði plateau, you will see the beautiful glow of Hveragerði’s geothermal greenhouses. Note: If weather conditions are unsuitable, we will discuss your itinerary and adjust accordingly.
