Afternoon Delight: First up is Þingvellir National Park, home of Iceland’s ancient parliament.
We’ll spend about 20 minutes walking through the park to experience the dramatic mid-Atlantic ridge where the 9000-year old lava field splits apart. Approaching the home of the great Strokkur geyser in the geothermal area of Haukadalur, you’ll likely be able to see an eruption every 5 to 7 minutes. Spouting boiling hot water into the air at heights of approximately 25 to 30 meters, we’ll stop here to enjoy one of nature’s greatest shows while exploring the colourful hot springs.
Next, we’ll be enroute to the magnificent Gullfoss waterfall: a two-tiered drop into the white Hvita river with its powerful glacial run-off waters. Then we’re northbound at the beginning of the Kjölur interior mountain road, famous for being the second longest route through the Highlands of Iceland. This road has been around since the early Icelandic settlements and is even mentioned in Icelandic sagas.
We’ve come to see the second largest glacier in the country, Langjökull. In the summer, we’ll drive onto the glacier; in the winter, snowmobile activities take place either on or next to the glacier, depending on conditions.
The snowmobile option allows for an extra hour to explore (or longer, if requested). Next stop is dinner in the country side before heading back to Reykjavík and hunt for northern lights in the winter or enjoy the midnight sun
in summer.

Then we’ll be navigating the famous Kjölur interior mountain road, a part of Iceland since its earliest settlements and often a major role in Icelandic sagas. It’s also the second longest route through the Highlands.

LOBSTER FEAST INCLUDED After a very busy afternoon, a lobster feast awaits us in the seaside town of Stokkseyri, on the south coast. Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time for the grand finale: the Northern Lights dancing in the sky, one of the world’s most incredible shows! We’ll stop to drink in the performance before going home.
NORTHERN LIGHTS DANCING IN THE SKY - Heading towards Reykjavík after dinner we drive through the mountain plateau area of Hellisheiði. Ascending to the Hellisheiði plateau, you will see the beautiful glow of Hveragerði’s geothermal greenhouses. Note: If weather conditions are unsuitable, we will discuss your itinerary and adjust accordingly.
