What Will You Do

Known for sheltering the Sugarloaf Mountain and for the privileged view it offers to Guanabara Bay, Botafogo beach hides a little explored and pulsating alternative life with bars, restaurants and cultural centers.

We pass just in front of Sugar Loaf hill at the entrance to Guanabara Bay. It’s well known worldwide as one of the postcards and symbols of Rio de Janeiro.

Located at the entrance to Guanabara Bay, Laje Fortress was decisive in preventing French and Dutch corsairs and invaders to enter the Bay to attack Rio.

Adão and Eva beach are twin beaches, characterized by their calm, greenish sea and fine sand.

The fortress was built in the context of the expulsion of the French by the Portuguese from Guanabara Bay. It was a strategic region that had been occupied by the French since 1555, called France Antarctica. With the Portuguese victory, in 1565 the city of Rio de Janeiro was founded.

The Contemporary Art Museum (MAC) is the current symbol of the city of Niterói. The futuristic form created by Niemeyer became a landmark of modern architecture worldwide, being considered one of the seven wonders of the World in museums by the specialized media.

Santa Cruz fortress was built centuries ago, where it is possible to get to know a little of the history of Brazil up close.

Icaraí Beach is located in the interior of Guanabara Bay. With 1,200m of extension and vegetation composed of almond and coconut trees, it is one of the best known in the city. The place has an extensive strip of sand and a boardwalk that allow the practice of various sports, hiking or just admiring the beautiful panorama. From there, you can see the MAC and part of the city of Rio de Janeiro, highlighting the Corcovado and the Sugarloaf Mountains.

It has 750m of extension, almond trees and grasses that occupy part of the beach. Its waters are calm, with clear and fine sand. It is bordered by bars and restaurants, points of the biggest nightlife in the city. On a hill at the end of the beach is the Church of São Francisco Xavier.

Jurujuba Beach is bordered by a narrow sidewalk with ipê and almond trees. On the beach is installed the headquarters of the traditional fishermen's colony. The cove of Jurujuba is the scene of the São Pedro de Jurujuba festival, held annually. On the waterfront, there are several typical seafood restaurants and bars.

Boa Viagem Island is a small and beautiful island, close to Icaraí beach in Niteroi, which marks in an interesting and simple way the scenery of Guanabara Bay and the old entrance to the port of Rio de Janeiro.
