What to Expect
Meet your guides at the Silfra parking area within Thingvellir National Park. You will be fitted with a thermal underlayer and a full dry suit designed to keep you insulated in the near-freezing water.
Before entering the water, guides provide a comprehensive safety briefing covering snorkeling technique, how to manage buoyancy in the fissure, and what to expect from each section of the dive.
You enter the water at the top of the fissure and begin your guided float through Silfra Hall, one of the widest and most dramatically lit sections of the rift.
Guides lead you through the Cathedral, the Lagoon, and the narrower passages, pointing out geological features and the vivid green and blue hues created by light passing through the glacial water. You can reach out and touch both continental plates at once.
After completing the snorkel route, you exit the water and remove your equipment with guide assistance. Hot chocolate and a light snack are typically provided to help you warm up.
