10 Day Amazon Deep Survival Trip to Amanã Lake
Ten days of immersive wilderness in the heart of the Brazilian Amazon
This Amazon deep survival trip takes small groups into one of the most remote and biodiverse regions on Earth, combining jungle camping, canoe travel, wildlife observation, and hands-on survival skills over ten consecutive days.
Departing from the city of Tefe, reachable by a 50-minute flight from Manaus or a two-day river journey, the expedition moves through a series of distinct Amazon ecosystems including the channels of Parana do Mamori and the vast Amanã Lake reserve.
Each day is structured around a different activity and a different location, so participants gain a layered understanding of the rainforest rather than repeated visits to a single site. Accommodation shifts between the Amazon Floating Camp and open jungle camps depending on the stage of the journey.
The route is rated moderate in difficulty. Participants should be comfortable with long boat transfers, uneven forest terrain, heat and humidity, and nights spent in remote settings with limited connectivity.
Tour Highlights
Navigate deep Amazon river channels and reach the remote Amanã Lake reserve by speedboat.
Spot river dolphins, caimans, sloths, monkeys, and a wide variety of Amazonian bird species in their natural habitat.
Hike through primary rainforest with an expert local guide who explains flora, fauna, and jungle survival techniques.
Learn practical survival skills specific to the Amazon environment, including navigation and resource identification.
Fish for piranhas in Amazon waterways and visit an Arapaima Gigas fish farm to experience the scale of the river's largest fish.
Join a nighttime caiman spotting excursion by flashlight along flooded forest channels after dark.
Wake before dawn to witness the Amazon sunrise and listen to the morning chorus of wildlife in the surrounding forest.
Itinerary Overview
Pick up at the hotel and transfer to Ceasa Port, where the group boards a speedboat. Stops include the Arapaima fish farm at Catao Channel and the Meeting of the Waters where the Rio Negro meets the Solimoes, before continuing overland on the Transamazonica highway to the Parana do Mamori river and onward to the Amazon Floating Camp.
A morning motorized boat excursion scans the riverbanks and channels for birds and mammals native to the Mamori region. The afternoon session focuses on river dolphin observation and piranha fishing, followed by a guided nighttime caiman search using flashlights.
An early wake-up call at dawn offers a sunrise viewing and the first sounds of the jungle coming alive. After breakfast, the group travels by boat to a jungle trailhead and completes a guided hike where the local guide covers rainforest ecology and basic Amazon survival techniques.
The central days of the trip involve moving deeper into the reserve, changing campsite locations daily, and carrying out a rotating schedule of canoeing, fishing, hiking, and wildlife tracking. The Amanã Sustainable Development Reserve, one of the largest protected flooded forest areas in the world, forms the primary backdrop for these stages.
After a final morning activity and breakfast, the group departs by boat and vehicle back to the city of Tefe, with arrival estimated in the mid-afternoon. Participants arrange their own onward transport from Tefe.
