Amazon Survival Tour 4 Days 3 Nights — Deep Jungle Camping in the Juma Reserve
Four days of genuine wilderness immersion, canoe expeditions, and survival skills 100 kilometres south of Manaus.
The Amazon survival tour offered by Joshua's Amazon Expeditions is designed for travellers who want direct, unfiltered contact with the world's largest rainforest rather than a resort-based experience. Every night is spent camping in hammocks deep inside the jungle, placing participants at the centre of one of the most biodiverse ecosystems on the planet.
The route departs Manaus by speedboat, crosses the Meeting of the Waters where the Rio Negro and Solimoes converge, and continues by road and river to the Juma area — a remote stretch of flooded forest rarely visited by mainstream tourism. This combination of transport modes is itself part of the adventure, revealing how communities and ecosystems transition across the broader Amazon basin.
Throughout the four days, participants walk jungle trails, paddle canoes through flooded forest channels, fish for piranhas, spotlight caimans after dark, and visit a local riverside family. Meals are prepared in camp using regional ingredients including fresh river fish, rice, vegetables, and manioc, reflecting the diet of Amazonian communities who have sustained themselves in this environment for generations.
Tour Highlights
Camp for three nights in the Amazon jungle with hammocks and mosquito nets provided, sleeping under the forest canopy far from urban infrastructure.

Paddle by canoe at dawn to witness the Amazon jungle awakening, a quiet and atmospheric moment that sets the tone for each day in the forest.
Fish for piranhas and other river species in the afternoon, then return to camp and prepare the catch for dinner using traditional methods.
Visit a local riverside family home to learn how communities sustain their way of life within the forest, a cultural perspective that adds depth to the natural experience.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Departure from Ceasa Port by speedboat takes the group across the Meeting of the Waters and on to Careiro da Varzea. A 50-minute road transfer and a final speedboat leg deliver everyone to the jungle lodge by late morning. After lunch, a motorised boat carries the group to the camping site where hammocks are set up for the night.
An early morning canoe trip captures the forest at sunrise before breakfast is served at camp. A guided jungle walk from 08:00 to 11:30 covers medicinal plants, arachnids, and forest trees, with a chance of encountering wild monkeys. The afternoon is devoted to canoeing through flooded forest channels, and the evening ends with a boat excursion to spot caimans along the riverbanks.
A morning visit to a local family home in the forest provides insight into traditional Amazonian lifestyles and subsistence practices. In the afternoon, the group heads out by boat for a piranha fishing session, and the catch is prepared and cooked at camp for dinner. The night is spent in hammocks at the jungle camp.
An early jungle hike offers a final opportunity to explore the forest and observe wildlife before breakfast. The group then navigates by boat through channels and small creeks, ideal for birdwatching, before returning to the lodge for lunch. Departure for Manaus takes place at 13:30, with arrival in the city expected around 16:30.
