Into the Amazon Jungle: 5 Days at Amazon Tapiri Floating Lodge
Two nights under the canopy, guided by those who know the river best.
Amazon jungle expedition from Manaus takes you deep into one of the most biodiverse ecosystems on Earth, combining comfortable lodge stays with two immersive nights camping in the rainforest. Led by experienced local guides in deliberately small groups, this journey is designed around one principle: the quieter the group, the richer the encounter.
The route begins on the Rio Negro and crosses the legendary Meeting of the Waters before reaching the Amazon Tapiri Floating Lodge on Maçarico Lake. From there, every day unfolds differently — sunrise boat rides, jungle treks, visits to riverside communities, piranha fishing, and cayman spotting after dark.
Two of the four nights are spent in hammocks under mosquito nets directly in the forest, where a local guide teaches survival techniques and spear-fishing methods passed down through generations. It is a level of immersion that few organized tours in the region offer.
Tour Highlights
Witness the Meeting of the Waters where the black Rio Negro and the sandy-brown Solimões River flow side by side without mixing.
Spend two nights camping in the Amazon rainforest, sleeping in hammocks with mosquito nets and waking to the sounds of the jungle.
Night cayman spotting from a canoe, where your guide pulls a cayman from the water by hand and explains its biology before releasing it.
Morning jungle treks with explanations of medicinal plants, spider species, and chances to encounter wild monkeys and sloths.
Canoe through flooded forest channels — or walk the same routes during the dry season — spotting birds and arboreal wildlife up close.
Visit a riverside family living along the Amazon and gain insight into daily life in one of the world's most remote inhabited regions.
Stop at a floating fish farm to see and feed Giant Arapaima Gigas, the largest scaled freshwater fish on the planet.
Itinerary Overview
Depart by speedboat from Ceasa Port, stopping at a floating fish farm to feed Arapaima Gigas before continuing to the Meeting of the Waters. Cross to Careiro Village, transfer by road to Maçarico Lake, and reach the lodge by late morning. The afternoon features a canoe trip for dolphin watching, piranha fishing, and sunset, followed by a night cayman-spotting excursion by canoe.
A pre-dawn boat ride captures the sunrise over the river while the forest comes alive with sound. After breakfast, a morning jungle trek covers medicinal plants, insects, and wildlife. The afternoon is devoted to canoeing through flooded forest channels — or trekking during the dry season — with strong opportunities to spot monkeys, sloths, and birds.
A morning visit to a local riverside family offers a direct look at traditional Amazonian life, followed by a swim in the river on the return. In the afternoon the group relocates to a jungle camp, prepares dinner together, and heads out after dark for a spear-fishing demonstration guided by traditional techniques.
The full day is spent in the rainforest with the guide sharing survival techniques, forest knowledge, and additional trekking and canoeing. A night safari provides further spear-fishing practice. Overnight in hammocks under mosquito nets in the forest.
Return to the lodge by mid-morning, enjoy a final lunch, and depart at early afternoon for the journey back to Manaus, arriving by late afternoon.
