Sunset Big 5 Aquila Safari with Snacks and Wine Tasting
A golden-hour game drive through the African bushveld, paired with a Cape Town city experience and South African wine.
The Sunset Big 5 Aquila Safari combines a guided Cape Town city tour with an open-air game drive through Aquila Private Game Reserve, where lions, elephants, buffalo, leopards, and rhinos roam freely across the Western Cape landscape.
This tour delivers two distinct experiences in a single day. Guests begin with a guided drive through Cape Town's most historically significant neighborhoods before heading inland to the reserve for an afternoon game drive and sunset wine tasting.
Experienced safari guides lead the game drive aboard open 4x4 vehicles, providing context on wildlife behavior and the reserve's ecology. Snacks and fine South African wines accompany the closing hours of the drive as the light fades over the bushveld.
Note that the entrance fee to Aquila Private Game Reserve is not included in the tour price and must be paid directly at the reserve upon arrival.

Itinerary
The tour begins in Bo-Kaap, a neighborhood shaped by the Group Areas Act of 1950 and home to Cape Town's Cape Muslim community. From there, guests visit Greenmarket Square, a cobblestone plaza established in 1696 that once served as a produce and slave market under Dutch colonial rule.
Grand Parade, the city's main public square, was the site of Nelson Mandela's historic 1990 speech following his release from prison. Nearby, the Castle of Good Hope — built between 1666 and 1679 by the Dutch East India Company — stands as the oldest surviving colonial structure in South Africa.
The group travels approximately 50 minutes from Cape Town to the historic Nederburg wine estate, founded in 1791 by German immigrant Philippus Wolvaart. The estate's Cape Dutch manor house, completed in 1800, is a national monument and a landmark of the region's winemaking heritage.
Guests are welcomed at Aquila with drinks and snacks before boarding open 4x4 safari vehicles. The reserve entrance fee is paid directly on-site prior to the game drive.
An experienced guide leads a 2 to 3 hour game drive through the reserve as the afternoon light transitions into the golden hour. Lions, elephants, buffalo, leopards, and rhinos may all be encountered during the drive.
As the drive concludes, guests settle in for a selection of South African wines paired with snacks, with the reserve's landscape lit by the last light of the day. The group then returns to Cape Town.
