Your guide collects you from your accommodation in Ponta Delgada and the group heads west toward the Sete Cidades volcanic complex, with a stop at the Pico do Carvao viewpoint to survey the central island and its craters.

You visit the Carvao and Nove Janelas aqueducts before continuing to the Lagoa das Empadadas, a secluded lake set within a dense cryptomeria forest that sees very few visitors.

A short walking trail leads to the Lagoa do Canario and on to the Grota do Inferno viewpoint, where the full caldera opens up below. The route then continues to the Vista do Rei, with its sweeping panorama over the village and the abandoned Monte Palace hotel.

Descend into the Sete Cidades village for a picnic lunch beside the lakes. After the break, mount your electric bike and follow trails along the caldera floor, guided by your local expert who points out volcanic features, native plants and local wildlife along the way.

The afternoon continues to the Escalvado viewpoint overlooking Mosteiros village, and then to the Ponta da Ferraria viewpoint, known locally as Miradouro da Ilha Sabrina, for a view over the lava field and the Ferraria lighthouse.
