🌿 CANYONING Experience

🧭 Overview

CANYONING Experience São Miguel is a fun, nature-packed adventure in the Azores that lets you explore streams and waterfalls using canyoning techniques like optional jumps, rappels, and natural slides. Set in the lush northeast of São Miguel Island, this tour is designed to be exciting while remaining accessible for a wide range of ages. Expect a close-up, adrenaline-tinged way to discover one of the island’s most beautiful natural areas.

🧗 What to Expect

Your adventure takes place in the stunning Parque Natural da Ribeira dos Caldeirões, around 45 minutes by car from Ponta Delgada. After arriving, your certified guides will fit you with all canyoning equipment and run a safety briefing before you begin.

You will start with a short walk of about 15 minutes to the first stop for your initial safety briefing. Then you will continue uphill and pause again for a second briefing, where your guides will demonstrate the rappel technique. After about 10 more minutes of walking, you will reach the canyoning start point, where the real fun begins.

From the top of the first waterfall, you will progress through the course with a mix of techniques that can include several optional jumps (roughly 2 to 7 meters), one natural slide, and a few rappels (around 5 to 15 meters). If you feel uncomfortable at any obstacle, there are alternative options available. At the end, you will return to the original starting point.

Note: The exact route and techniques depend on local conditions and the season, as the river terrain and flow can change throughout the year.
