3-Day Northern Lights Hunt & Glacier Lagoon Tour
Chase the aurora, walk behind waterfalls, and stand before ancient glaciers on Iceland's most iconic winter journey.
This 3-Day Northern Lights Hunt & Glacier Lagoon Tour covers the Golden Circle, the South Coast, and the glacier lagoons of southeast Iceland, giving travellers a comprehensive winter experience across some of the country's most celebrated landscapes.
The tour departs from Reykjavik and follows a carefully paced itinerary that balances daytime sightseeing with evening aurora-hunting from countryside accommodation. Nights are spent at rural hotels well away from city light pollution, where clear skies regularly reveal the Northern Lights without the need for any additional excursion.
Travel is by full-sized coach with no luggage restrictions, and the group is capped at 25 participants to keep the experience personal. Optional extras include a Blue Lagoon visit and a blue ice cave exploration on Vatnajokull Glacier, allowing travellers to tailor the tour to their interests.
Tour Highlights
Witness the Northern Lights from a countryside hotel far from city lights, with two dedicated evenings of aurora viewing.
Walk behind Seljalandsfoss waterfall and stand before the thundering cascade of Skogafoss on Iceland's South Coast.
Marvel at floating icebergs at Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon and discover glittering ice fragments along Diamond Beach.
Explore UNESCO-listed Thingvellir National Park, where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet.
Watch Strokkur geyser erupt spectacularly at the Geysir geothermal area and admire Gullfoss cascading into the Hvita canyon.
Visit Fridheimar Geothermal Farm and learn how tomatoes are grown year-round using Iceland's sustainable volcanic energy.
Walk along Reynisfjara Black Beach and observe the dramatic basalt columns and powerful Atlantic surf near the village of Vik.
Itinerary
Begin at Thingvellir National Park, then continue to the Geysir geothermal area where Strokkur erupts every few minutes. After visiting Gullfoss waterfall and Fridheimar Farm, travel south to your countryside hotel near Vik for the first evening of Northern Lights hunting.
Head east along the South Coast to Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon, where icebergs calved from Breidamerkurjokull drift in milky white and bright blue hues. Visit Diamond Beach, then choose between an optional blue ice cave tour on Vatnajokull Glacier or a visit to the quieter Fjallsarlon Glacier Lagoon. Return through Vatnajokull National Park, home to Europe's largest glacier.
Travel west along the South Coast, stopping at Reynisfjara Black Beach for its striking basalt columns and powerful surf. Visit Skogafoss and Seljalandsfoss waterfalls before heading to the Blue Lagoon as an optional final highlight. The tour concludes with a drop-off at your Reykjavik hotel.
