          More to know about Hvalfjordur

Hvalfjordur is a fjord in southwestern Iceland, located in the Capital Region northwest of Reykjavik. The deep waterway is surrounded by steep mountains and cascading waterfalls, including the notable Barnafoss waterfall. The area is popular for hiking along scenic trails, fishing, and observing the dramatic landscape formed by glacial activity.
Hvalfjordur (Whale Fjord) is a glacially carved fjord located on Iceland's western coast, approximately 45 kilometres north of Reykjavik, within the Capital Region. It spans roughly 30 kilometres from the Faxafloi Bay inlet to its inner valley head, flanked by volcanic ridges reaching above 700 metres. The fjord gained strategic international significance as an Allied naval staging post during World War II and remains one of Iceland's most accessible yet underpopulated scenic corridors, notable for Glymur waterfall, geothermal activity, and rich birdlife.
