Self Drive Wetsuit Snorkeling in Silfra with Underwater Photos
Drift through crystal-clear glacial water between the tectonic plates of Europe and North America
Snorkeling in Silfra offers a rare opportunity to float through one of the clearest bodies of freshwater on earth, inside a glacial fissure that physically separates two continental plates. The experience is rated among the top dive sites in the world and requires no prior diving licence or certification.
Located within the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Thingvellir National Park, roughly 50 km from Reykjavik, Silfra is a submerged canyon formed by the gradual drift of the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates. The fissure widens by approximately 2 cm each year, and the water filtering through the surrounding lava fields achieves visibility exceeding 100 meters.
Adventure Vikings is the only operator in Iceland offering wetsuit snorkeling as a dedicated option. Unlike a standard drysuit tour, the wetsuit allows for greater freedom of movement and the ability to dive below the surface, giving participants an immersive view of the underwater terrain.
Underwater photos are included in this self-drive package, meaning participants make their own way to the site and collect a full photographic record of their experience. All necessary equipment is provided on arrival.
