Itinerary Overview
Depart Casablanca and travel north to Rabat, visiting the Hassan Tower, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, and the Kasbah of the Udayas. Continue to Fes for your first night in the oldest of Morocco's imperial cities.
Spend a full day inside the medina of Fes el-Bali, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Highlights include the Bou Inania Madrasa, the Chouara tanneries, Al-Attarine souks, and the Karaouyine mosque quarter.
Drive south through Ifrane and its cedar forests before descending into the Ziz Valley. Pass through Errachidia and follow the palm-lined valley road to reach Merzouga and the Erg Chebbi dunes for a camel ride at sunset and an overnight desert camp.
After sunrise over the dunes, travel west through the Draa Valley region, stopping at the Todra Gorge before continuing to the Dades Gorge for the night. The route passes several fortified kasbahs and traditional mud-brick villages.
