Marrakech Medina: Self-Guided Audio Walking Tour
Discover the ochre city at your own pace, guided by immersive audio commentary through 21 storied landmarks.
This Marrakech audio guided walking tour takes you through the living heart of the Medina, where souks, palaces, mosques and historic squares form one of the most layered urban landscapes in North Africa. With 21 audio commentaries and a real-time 3D map, the route unfolds naturally over roughly two hours and forty-five minutes. No fixed schedule, no group to follow, just the city and your curiosity.
The itinerary winds through fragrant souk alleys, past ochre-walled courtyards and under arched passages where light filters down onto scenes of daily commerce and craft. You pass through districts that have shaped Marrakech for centuries, from the Jewish Mellah to the grand remnants of Saadian palaces, each stop grounded in historical context delivered through your earphones.
The application works fully offline, so you are never dependent on a data connection inside the dense lanes of the Medina. Audio commentary is available in French, English and Spanish, and can be played simultaneously on multiple devices, making it easy for couples or small groups to listen together.
The tour is designed as a loop, which means you can join from whichever point suits your starting location. Unlimited access lets you pause, retrace your steps, or linger wherever the atmosphere draws you in, whether that is a spice stall, a shaded courtyard, or a quiet corner of a historic square.

Itinerary Overview
The social and economic heart of Marrakech, this UNESCO-listed square is a constant theater of street performers, food vendors and daily city life. The audio commentary sets the square in its historical and cultural context.
The route weaves through the spice souk, leather souk, carpet souk and potters' souk, each occupying its own cluster of narrow lanes. Commentary explains the organization of the traditional souk system and the crafts practiced there.
Completed in 1158 after seventeen years of construction, the Koutoubia remains the largest mosque in Marrakech. A dedicated viewpoint on the route offers a clear sightline to the 69-meter minaret, 77 meters including its spire.
The Saadian Tombs, open to the public since 1917, hold the remains of the sultans who ruled between 1524 and 1659. Nearby, the ruined walls of El Badi Palace, built by Sultan Ahmed al-Mansur in the sixteenth century, mark what was once the most ambitious royal complex of its era.
The former Jewish quarter was established in 1558 by Sultan Moulay Abdallah and retains a distinct urban character. Adjacent to it stands Bahia Palace, built at the end of the nineteenth century as the grandest private residence of its time.
The Ben Youssef Madrasa, the largest in Morocco, is noted for its detailed stucco and carved cedar interior. The Marrakech Museum, established in 1997 within a historic palace by the Omar-Benjelloun Foundation, sits a short walk away.
