Itinerary
The day begins with pickup from Ponta Delgada or a nearby designated meeting point, then heads toward Furnas by jeep. Along the way, stops are made at Caloura village, the Furnas Lake viewpoint and Lombo do milho to take in key viewpoints, each generally kept to around 10 minutes. At the Caldeiras stews area in Furnas Lake, the traditional underground-cooked stew is prepared for the included lunch. The tour continues into Furnas Village, where fumaroles and volcanic vegetation can be explored up close. An optional stop at a thermal pool, such as Terra Nostra or Poça da Beija, offers time for a relaxing soak, and bathing suits and towels can be brought along for this. The day winds down with a visit to the Gorreana tea plantation for a cup of tea, before a final viewpoint stop at Santa Iria and the return drop-off. The full day runs for about 7 hours from pickup to drop-off, and comfortable shoes are recommended throughout.
