Itinerary
The day centers on the Sete Cidades volcanic crater on São Miguel Island, explored first by all-terrain jeep. Stops include the Sete Cidades village, the Pico do Carvão viewpoint, the Santiago lake viewpoint, and the Canário and Empadadas lake areas, along with a dirt road along the rim of the caldeira known as Cumeeiras. The jeep route also continues to the sea shore, where secondary volcano effects produce pockets of hot sea water. In the afternoon, an easy, roughly 2 hour circular walking trail through Serra Devassa begins and ends opposite Lagoa do Canário. From the top of the hillside on this trail you can see Lagoa das Éguas and a small round lake, with a side turn to a vantage point overlooking those two lakes and Lagoa Rasa. Bathrooms are available at some stops along the way, and lunch is included during the day.

This full-day tour runs for 7 hours and includes lunch, a driver and guide, and pick-up and drop-off from your hotel or a designated meeting point, all as part of a small group format. Entrance fees for thermal pools and natural parks are not included, so budget for these separately if you plan to visit them.
