Itinerary
The tour starts with pickup from Ponta Delgada before heading into the countryside around Furnas. Inside this volcanic crater, you ride between natural hot springs, steaming thermal pools and active geysers in the off-road vehicle, with your guide explaining the dynamic environment along the way. Stops include the Furnas Lake view, Lombo do Milho, the Caldeiras stews area at Furnas Lake, Furnas Village with its fumarolas, and the Gorreana tea plantation. There is time to consider a dip in one of the area's hot springs and to photograph the sweeping viewpoints before being dropped off.
Before you go
This tour departs from Ponta Delgada, São Miguel Island, Autonomous Region of the Azores, Portugal, and runs for 4 hours. Included are pickup and drop-off, the small-group tour and a driver/guide. Entrance fees to thermal pools and natural parks are optional and not included, and drinks and snacks are excluded. Bring comfortable shoes, and optionally a bathing suit and towel in case you want to try one of the hot springs. Cancellation policy: a full refund or credit is given with 24 hours notice, and also in case of operator cancellation due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances; no-shows are charged in full. Pickup time is normally 9 AM but is adjusted to ship arrival for cruise passengers, and if the ship docks at the commercial dock, the lead traveler's name will be shown on a sign at the pier rather than via shuttle.
