Sunset Benagil Caves Tour
Discover the iconic sea caves and hidden beaches of the Algarve coastline bathed in the golden light of sunset.
The Sunset Benagil Cave Tour offers a rare opportunity to explore one of Portugal's most celebrated natural wonders at the most photogenic hour of the day. Departing from Armação de Pêra, this one-hour small-group journey navigates through a dramatic stretch of coastline that few visitors ever see up close.
The Algarve's rock-carved shoreline is among the most distinctive in Europe, shaped over millennia into arches, grottos, and hidden coves that are only accessible from the water. This tour traces a route through more than 10 caves and approximately 15 secluded beaches, including spots that remain out of reach for anyone not arriving by boat.
As the sun descends toward the Atlantic horizon, the limestone formations shift through shades of amber, rose, and deep orange — a visual spectacle that makes this particular departure time genuinely different from a midday excursion. The small group format, capped at 10 passengers, ensures a more personal experience and better vantage points throughout the journey.
The itinerary covers landmarks including Marinha Beach, widely regarded as one of the finest beaches in Europe, the distinctive Captain's Cave, and the graceful Natural Arch of Albandeira. The highlight, of course, is the famous Benagil Cave itself — an enormous sea dome open to the sky, where the fading daylight creates an atmosphere that is difficult to describe and even harder to forget.

Route Overview
The tour begins at the Fishermen's Beach in Armação de Pêra, where the crew will carry out safety briefings and distribute equipment before departure. Passengers are asked to arrive at least 20 minutes early to allow for a smooth boarding process.
The boat travels east along the coast, passing through a sequence of named beaches and cave formations including Beijinhos Beach, Tremoços Beach, Cova Redonda Cave, and Nossa Senhora da Rocha Beach. Each stop presents a different profile of the region's geological character.
The Albandeira section of the route includes three distinct points of interest: the cave, the beach, and the celebrated natural stone arch. This stretch is one of the quieter parts of the coastline and rewards visitors with an unspoiled atmosphere.
The Captain's Cave is a notable formation along the route before the boat reaches Marinha Beach, consistently listed among Europe's top-ranked beaches. The Heart of Marinha Beach, a natural rock formation, is also visible from the water.
The Benagil Cave is the centrepiece of the tour: a large sea dome with a circular skylight open to the sky above a sandy interior beach. The boat enters the cave and pauses to allow passengers time to observe and photograph the interior. Disembarkation inside the cave is not permitted by law.
Following the visit to Benagil Beach, the boat returns to the departure point at Armação de Pêra Fishermen's Beach, completing the approximately one-hour circuit along the coast.
