Itinerary
The tour begins at the meeting point in Fenais da Luz, a small coastal village on the north shore of São Miguel. After a safety briefing and helmet fitting, riders head out along the seafront on the first leg of the route.
The group passes the Muro das 9 Janelas, a historic nine-arched aqueduct that once supplied fresh water to the region. It is one of the lesser-known architectural landmarks of the island's interior.
At nearly 850 meters, Pico da Cruz is the highest point on the route and delivers unobstructed views over Lagoa de Santiago, Lagoa Rasa, and the main Sete Cidades lagoon. This is a defining moment of the half-day ride.
Two consecutive viewpoints frame the twin-colored lagoons from the crater rim. The Cumeeiras lookout is widely regarded as the most photogenic vantage point over Sete Cidades.
The most technical portions of the tour take riders along the superior rim of the volcanic crater and then down around the Cerrado das Freiras lake. Both segments are off-road and accessible only on foot or by ATV.
The final section passes through the coastal village of Capelas before looping back to the starting point. The descent from the crater to the coast offers a final perspective on the island's layered volcanic geography.
