Private Buggy Tour in Sete Cidades – Half-Day Off-Road
Crater rims, twin lakes, and hidden volcanic trails — explored entirely on your terms.
This private buggy tour in Sete Cidades takes you deep into one of the Azores' most spectacular volcanic landscapes, combining on-road and off-road segments across crater edges, coastal dirt tracks, and elevated viewpoints that few visitors ever reach.
Departing from Fenais da Luz on the north coast of Sao Miguel, your dedicated guide leads the way through a sequence of landmarks that reveal the geological scale of the Sete Cidades caldera. From ancient aqueduct walls to a summit at 845 metres altitude, the route builds steadily toward its most dramatic vantage points.
Because this is a private experience, the pace adapts to your group. Your guide maintains safety throughout while allowing time to stop, observe, and take in surroundings that a standard group tour would pass through quickly.
The itinerary crosses terrain that passenger vehicles simply cannot access, making the buggy or quad the ideal vehicle for this kind of exploration. Clear-weather departures reward participants with sweeping views over the Green and Blue Lagoon of Sete Cidades, as well as the Atlantic coastline stretching to the horizon.

Tour Itinerary
The tour begins at the coastal village of Fenais da Luz on the north shore of Sao Miguel. This is the starting and finishing point, where the safety briefing takes place before departure.
An early stop at this historic nine-arched aqueduct, a stone structure built to channel water across the volcanic terrain. It offers a window into the island's agricultural and hydraulic heritage.
Ascend to one of the highest accessible points in the area, with views extending over Lagoa de Santiago, Lagoa Rasa, and the Sete Cidades lagoon system. On clear days, the Atlantic is visible in multiple directions.
Two of the most celebrated viewpoints on the island, positioned directly above the caldera. From here, the green and blue waters of the twin lagoons are clearly distinguishable.
The route continues along the superior rim of the volcanic crater on unpaved off-road trails. This section is the most technically adventurous and reaches terrain no car-based tour can access.
Passing through the village of Capelas, the tour loops back to the north coast and returns to the starting point at Fenais da Luz, completing the circular route.
