Discover the Ocean Floor: Scuba Diving Baptism at Vila Franca do Campo
Your first breath underwater, guided by experts in one of the Atlantic's most pristine marine reserves.
This scuba diving baptism in the Azores offers a structured and supervised introduction to the underwater world, combining concise theory with real hands-on experience off the coast of Vila Franca do Campo. Participants learn the fundamentals of dive equipment, underwater communication, and breathing techniques before entering the water from a dedicated boat.
The experience takes place at or near the Natural Reserve of Ilhéu de Vila Franca do Campo, a protected islet on the southern coast of São Miguel Island. The site is historically significant, as it shelters 16th-century shipwrecked cannons resting on the seabed, surrounded by a thriving ecosystem of Atlantic marine life.
Sessions run as half-day experiences, either morning or afternoon, on pre-arranged dates or by prior agreement with the group. The format is relaxed and unhurried, making it accessible to first-time divers who meet the basic requirements of being at least 10 years old and able to swim.
