Algarve Boat Tour
Algarve Caves and Coastline: Vilamoura to Benagil by RIB Boat
Explore 10 to 15 sea caves, 8 coastal landmarks, and 32 nautical miles of the most dramatic shoreline in southern Portugal.
This Algarve caves boat tour departs from Marina de Vilamoura and traces the coast westward past Falésia Beach, Albufeira, and Armação de Pêra before reaching the celebrated Benagil sea caves. The journey covers approximately 32 nautical miles aboard a 7.60 m Vanguard RIB, keeping groups to a maximum of 12 guests throughout.
The route passes through geological formations shaped over millions of years, with fossilised marine materials visible inside the cave interiors. Tidal conditions influence which caves are accessible on any given day, so the exact number visited ranges between 10 and 15, ensuring a genuine and variable natural experience.
An experienced crew provides commentary on regional geology, local marine life, and the conservation practices the operator follows. The small-group format allows for direct conversation with the guide and unhurried stops at each landmark along the way.
The tour suits travellers seeking both visual and educational engagement with the Algarve coast. Photographers benefit from the natural light that enters the cave openings, while those interested in ecology will find the crew's knowledge of the coastal ecosystem informative and grounded.

Tour Itinerary
Guests check in at least 20 minutes before departure at Gate Q, where a crew member greets the group at the boarding point. The vessel departs once safety briefings are complete.
The route heads west along the distinctive ochre cliffs of Falésia Beach, one of the most photographed stretches of the Algarve shore. The crew provides geological context for the layered sandstone formations visible from the water.
The boat passes the bay of Albufeira before continuing toward the traditional fishing village of Armação de Pêra. These two communities illustrate the contrast between the Algarve's coastal tourism development and its working maritime heritage.
The crew navigates through a sequence of 10 to 15 sea caves, with entry dependent on tidal and sea state conditions at the time of departure. Fossil-bearing rock layers inside the caves are pointed out and explained during each stop.
The tour reaches the Benagil cave, known for its domed ceiling and the opening that allows natural light to illuminate the interior. The RIB boat's size allows closer access than larger vessels are able to achieve.
The vessel heads back along the coast toward the marina, offering additional views of landmarks seen on the outbound leg. The crew answers questions and shares additional information about marine conservation throughout the return journey.
