Lagos Catamaran Sailing Tour Along the Algarve Coast
Sail the golden cliffs and hidden coves of southern Portugal aboard a modern sailing catamaran.
This Lagos catamaran sailing tour takes you along one of Europe's most dramatic coastlines, where towering limestone formations meet calm turquoise waters and secluded coves invite a spontaneous swim.
The Bali 4.3 catamaran provides a stable, spacious platform well-suited to guests of all ages and experience levels. Twin hulls reduce rolling motion at sea, and the wide deck layout ensures there is always room to relax, whether you prefer shade in the salon or sun on the forward lounge area.
The crew brings genuine local knowledge to every departure, guiding guests toward the coves and rock formations that are most worth seeing on any given day. Their focus is on seamless, unhurried time on the water rather than a rushed sequence of photo stops.
Paddleboards and snorkeling gear are available on board, so guests can explore beneath the surface or glide across the bay during anchor stops. Welcome drinks set the tone for a relaxed afternoon away from the crowds on shore.
Tour Highlights
Benagil Cave — sail into the iconic sea cave with its open ceiling, one of the most recognisable natural landmarks on the Portuguese coast.
Ponta da Piedade — navigate among dramatic rock arches and sea stacks rising from crystal-clear Atlantic water just south of Lagos.
Marinha and Carvoeiro Beaches — consistently ranked among the finest beaches in Europe, framed by golden sandstone cliffs.
Marinha and Albandeira Coves — sheltered inlets offering calm, clear water ideal for swimming and snorkeling away from busy beaches.
Alvor Bay — a broad, calm bay where guests can try paddleboarding or kayaking, or simply rest on deck in the sun.
Open-ocean sailing aboard the Bali 4.3 — experience the sensation of wind-powered travel with the comfort of a modern performance catamaran.
How the Tour Unfolds
Guests check in at the marina gate leading to pontoons E, F, G, H, and I at least 15 minutes before departure. The crew welcomes everyone on board and presents the Bali 4.3 and its facilities before casting off.
The catamaran leaves Lagos and heads east along the Algarve shoreline. As the marina recedes, the limestone cliffs and sea arches of Ponta da Piedade come into view — one of the first and most striking sights of the voyage.
The route continues past Marinha and Carvoeiro, where the crew navigates close to the cliffs to reveal hidden grottos and arches. Conditions permitting, the catamaran approaches Benagil Cave so guests can appreciate its cathedral-like interior from the water.
The crew selects a calm cove — often near Albandeira or Marinha — to drop anchor and allow guests time in the water. Snorkeling equipment and paddleboards are available during this stop, and welcome drinks are served on deck.
After the anchor stop the catamaran sets sail back toward Lagos, offering a relaxed final stretch on the water. Guests can claim a spot on the forward sunbeds or take a seat in the open aft area as the coastline passes by.
