Ice Cave Captured: Glacier Hike with Professional Photography
Step inside the living ice and leave with professional photos of the moment.
This guided experience brings you deep inside a crystal ice cave on Vatnajokull Glacier, where a dedicated glacier guide and photographer documents every moment of your journey across one of Iceland's most dramatic landscapes.
The tour combines genuine glacier exploration with professional photography, meaning you can stay fully present in the experience while your guide handles the camera work. Shots are professionally edited and delivered digitally within 14 days of your tour date.
The ice cave itself is a seasonal formation that shifts in shape, depth, and character each year as meltwater carves new chambers through the glacier. No two visits are identical, which makes every outing a distinct encounter with Iceland's ancient ice.
The hike is rated moderate and is accessible to most visitors with a reasonable level of fitness. Your guide will match the pace to the group and will brief everyone on safety before entering the cave.

Tour Itinerary
Arrive at the Glacier Lagoon parking lot in Vatnajokull National Park at least 15 to 20 minutes before departure. Your guide will be waiting near the bus parking area, identifiable by the Ice Pic Journeys logo on the 4x4 vehicle.
Board the 4x4 vehicle and set off toward Vatnajokull Glacier. After approximately 10 minutes, the route turns onto an F-road, with the full drive to the glacier parking area taking around 20 to 30 minutes. Your guide provides context on the surrounding glacial landscape throughout the ride.
At the glacier parking area, your guide distributes all necessary equipment including helmets, headlamps, and rental hiking boots if applicable. The hike to the cave entrance follows mostly flat, rocky terrain at a relaxed pace suited to the group.
After a safety briefing at the cave entrance, you will step inside and move through its chambers as your guide photographs you from the most effective angles. The crystal blue ice walls and shifting light conditions create a visually striking environment that is unlike anything found above ground.
Once the cave exploration is complete, the group hikes back to the glacier parking area and boards the 4x4 for the return drive. The tour concludes back at the Glacier Lagoon parking lot where you originally met your guide.
