Ice Cave and Glacier Tour in Glacier Monster Truck from Gullfoss
Ride into the heart of Iceland's second-largest glacier aboard a towering Monster Truck and step inside a natural ice cave.
This Langjokull glacier ice cave tour combines overland travel in a purpose-built Monster Glacier Truck with a guided walk through a naturally formed ice cave, placing visitors deep inside one of Iceland's most dramatic frozen landscapes. The journey departs from Gullfoss Waterfall and follows the highland road to the glacier, offering sweeping views at every bend. Panoramic windows and oversized tires make the ride both comfortable and memorable.
The natural ice cave known as the Neptune cave reveals walls of compressed ice threaded with black volcanic ash, a record of eruptions that occurred centuries before the current glacier formed. The contrast between translucent blue ice and dark ash layers creates a visual spectacle that changes with the available light. Guides explain the geological processes behind these formations throughout the visit.
Knowledge-sharing is built into every stage of the itinerary, from folklore about the Icelandic Highlands to the science of glacial movement and accumulation. The moderate difficulty rating means most adults can participate without specialist experience, provided they wear suitable footwear and waterproof outerwear. The tour returns to Gullfoss, leaving time to observe the famous waterfall before or after the excursion.
Langjokull, meaning Long Glacier, covers roughly 953 square kilometres and sits at an elevation where highland conditions can shift rapidly. The Monster Truck's design addresses those conditions directly, with tyres engineered for soft snow and uneven terrain. Visitor safety and comfort are managed at every point, from the transfer bus to the final descent off the ice.

Start and finish at Gullfoss Waterfall, one of Iceland's most celebrated natural landmarks on the Golden Circle route.
Tour Itinerary
Arrive at the upper parking area of Gullfoss Waterfall on Road 35, near the Panorama Restaurant and Cafe. Please be present at least 15 minutes before the scheduled departure and look for the Sleipnir meeting point sign and the transfer bus or the red Monster Glacier Truck in winter.
Board a Highland transfer bus for the journey to the main base where the Monster Glacier Trucks are stationed. Guides begin sharing stories about the Icelandic Highlands during this initial leg of the trip.
Transfer onto the Monster Glacier Truck and travel the highland road toward Langjokull glacier. The route passes through raw volcanic terrain, with guides providing commentary on the landscape, glacial geology, and local history throughout.
Disembark and enter the Neptune ice cave on foot, where guides explain the ice formations, volcanic ash inclusions, and the forces that shaped this natural space. The cave's compressed blue ice and dark ash bands offer exceptional photographic conditions.
Take time outside the cave to photograph the glacier surface, the surrounding highland scenery, and the Monster Truck against the ice. The scale of the landscape becomes fully apparent from this vantage point.
The tour retraces the highland road back to Gullfoss Waterfall, giving participants time to reflect on the experience. The endpoint near the waterfall allows for additional exploration of the site before departing independently.
