Hermanus Whale Watching Boat Trip and Stony Point Penguins Day Tour
A full-day coastal journey from Cape Town combining whale encounters at sea with African Penguins in Betty's Bay.
This Hermanus whale watching day tour takes you along one of South Africa's most scenic coastlines, offering a shared boat trip on the open water with opportunities to observe whales and other marine species in their natural environment. The experience combines ocean adventure with wildlife encounters and panoramic views of the Overberg coast.
Departing Cape Town, the route winds through the fishing villages and beach towns of the False Bay coastline before reaching the whale capital of the world. The scenic drive itself forms a meaningful part of the day, passing landmarks and seascapes that set the tone for what lies ahead.
The day concludes at Stony Point Nature Reserve in Betty's Bay, home to one of only two mainland African Penguin colonies in South Africa. This final stop provides a ground-level look at these endangered birds in a relaxed, accessible setting before the return drive to Cape Town.

Leaving the False Bay coastline, the drive continues inland and over the mountains toward Hermanus. The route passes through the Overberg agricultural landscape before descending to Walker Bay and the town of Hermanus.
On arrival at Hermanus Harbour, the group boards a shared vessel for the whale watching excursion on Walker Bay. The trip offers the possibility of sighting Southern Right Whales, Humpback Whales and Bryde's Whales, as well as other marine life including seals and seabirds.
