Thorsmork By 4x4: Wilderness Captured
Cross rivers, explore glaciers, and discover the hidden Valley of Thor on a fully private super jeep adventure from Reykjavik.
A private Thorsmork 4x4 tour delivers one of Iceland's most immersive wilderness experiences, taking guests into a remote valley enclosed by two glaciers and an active volcano. Your guide doubles as your photographer throughout, ensuring every dramatic moment is documented and shared with you after the tour.
Thorsmork, known as the Valley of Thor, sits at the convergence of the Eyjafjallajokull and Tindfjallajokull glaciers in southern Iceland. Access requires crossing glacial rivers by super jeep, making this a journey that begins before you even reach the trailhead.
The itinerary combines a series of distinct natural features, including a retreating glacier, a canyon resembling a primordial landscape, a cave concealing a waterfall, and a summit offering panoramic views over the surrounding wilderness. Lunch at Langidalur Hut grounds the day in a genuine sense of Icelandic mountain culture.
The tour operates on an easy difficulty rating, meaning the hikes are accessible to most fitness levels with appropriate footwear. Water-resistant boots and a rain jacket are recommended, particularly for the canyon section where small stream crossings and waterfall spray are expected.

Itinerary
Your guide collects you from your Reykjavik accommodation and drives south along the coast toward Thorsmork. The drive to the 4x4 track takes approximately two hours before the off-road river crossings begin.
The tour opens at the base of Gigjokull, the outlet glacier of Eyjafjallajokull volcano. Your guide explains how the 2010 eruption reshaped this glacier and what has changed in the years since.
A two-kilometer flat trail leads into the canyon, passing towering green cliff walls before arriving at a cave entrance concealing a waterfall. Small stream crossings along the trail make water-resistant footwear advisable.
The group stops at Langidalur Hut, a campground and mountain hut at the foot of Valahnukur. Lunch here provides a moment to absorb the surroundings before the final ascent.
A two-hour round-trip hike from the campground leads to the top of Valahnukur peak. The summit offers a 360-degree panorama of glaciers, valleys, and mountain ridges considered among Iceland's finest viewpoints.
After the descent, the group returns by 4x4 across the rivers and drives back to Reykjavik. Drop-off is at your original accommodation.
