Four-Day Tour of Southern Portugal: Lisbon, Evora, Algarve and Arrabida
A journey through medieval cities, golden coastlines, and unspoiled natural parks from Lisbon to the Algarve and back.
This South of Portugal tour takes travellers on a four-day guaranteed departure journey through some of the country's most compelling destinations, from the UNESCO-listed city of Evora to the dramatic Atlantic cliffs of Sagres. It is designed for those who want a comprehensive introduction to Portuguese history, cuisine, and landscapes without the complexity of independent planning.
The route links Lisbon southward through cork-oak and olive countryside to Evora, then continues into the Algarve to explore Lagos and Sagres before returning north via the Arrabida Natural Park. Each overnight stop provides a comfortable base from which to experience the surrounding area at a relaxed pace.
Meals are provided on a bed-and-breakfast basis throughout the tour, leaving lunches and dinners open for participants to discover local restaurants and markets at their own preference. The itinerary blends guided visits with generous free time, making it suitable for a wide range of travellers.
Tour Highlights
Lisbon offers fado music, celebrated pastries, and panoramic viewpoints that make it one of Europe's most distinctive capital cities.
Evora is a remarkably preserved medieval town and UNESCO World Heritage Site, home to a Roman temple, a Gothic cathedral, and the haunting Chapel of Bones.
Lagos combines a historic old town, a bustling marina, and some of the Algarve's most photographed cliff and beach scenery at Ponta da Piedade.
Sagres and Cabo de Sao Vicente mark the south-western tip of mainland Europe, a place of striking cliffs and deep maritime history linked to Prince Henry the Navigator.
Serra da Arrabida Natural Park sits less than an hour from Lisbon and rewards visitors with unique Mediterranean vegetation, limestone ridges, and sweeping views over the Troia Peninsula.
Local markets and regional dishes, from Evoran pork traditions to Algarve cataplana seafood and marzipan sweets, give the tour a strong culinary thread throughout.
Itinerary
Departing from Marques de Pombal Square, the tour crosses the Tagus bridge and travels through a landscape of olive groves, cork oaks, and vineyards to reach Evora. Guided visits cover the Roman Temple, the Romanesque-Gothic Cathedral, St. Francis Church with its Chapel of Bones, and the University, followed by time at the local market and free time to explore independently. Overnight in the Evora area on a bed-and-breakfast basis.
After breakfast and additional leisure time in Evora, the route heads south past Beja and its medieval castle tower before crossing into the Algarve. A stop in Silves allows a look at the imposing red sandstone Moorish castle, and the journey continues along the coast past Praia da Rocha to Lagos. Overnight in the Lagos area on a bed-and-breakfast basis.
The day begins at Ponta da Piedade, where Atlantic-sculpted rock formations and ocean views define the Algarve coastline, before continuing to Sagres fortress and the rugged promontory of Cabo de Sao Vicente. The afternoon returns to Lagos for free time to swim, explore the marina, and sample regional specialities including cataplana dishes and almond-based sweets. Overnight in the Lagos area on a bed-and-breakfast basis.
Departing the Algarve after breakfast, the return route passes through Setubal on the Sado estuary and then climbs into the Serra da Arrabida Natural Park for panoramic views of its limestone ridges and the Troia Peninsula beyond. Crossing the Tagus, the tour concludes with a drop-off at the agreed Lisbon location.
