The Alcobaca Monastery, founded in the 12th century, houses the intricately carved tombs of King D. Pedro and Ines de Castro, two of Portugal's most legendary figures.
Nazare, one of the most colourful and characteristic fishing villages in Portugal, sits beside a sweeping sandy beach and retains a strong sense of local identity.
The Batalha Monastery is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a defining example of Portuguese Gothic and Manueline architecture.
Fatima receives up to six million pilgrims and visitors each year, making it one of the most visited Catholic shrines in the world.
The Chapel of Apparitions and the tombs of Lucia, Jacinta, and Francisco sit at the spiritual core of the Fatima sanctuary and are open to all visitors.
A lunch stop at a local restaurant in Alcobaca gives you a genuine taste of traditional Portuguese cuisine in a setting that reflects regional character.
Itinerary
The tour departs from Marques de Pombal Square in Lisbon and heads north toward Obidos, a fortified medieval town enclosed by intact walls. Visitors can walk the narrow streets, admire the Pousada do Castelo, and take in the distinctive architecture of whitewashed houses with terracotta tile roofs.
The group continues to Alcobaca to visit the celebrated 12th-century monastery, a landmark of medieval religious architecture and the resting place of Portugal's royal lovers, D. Pedro and Ines de Castro. Following the visit, a traditional Portuguese lunch is served at a local restaurant in the area.
The afternoon brings a visit to Nazare, the iconic fishing village known for its colourful character and scenic beachfront setting. From there, the group proceeds to the Batalha Monastery, a UNESCO-listed Gothic and Manueline masterpiece, before continuing to Fatima for an overnight stay.
After breakfast at the hotel, the day is entirely free for personal exploration of the Fatima sanctuary and its surroundings. Visitors can attend mass, visit the Chapel of Apparitions, and pay respects at the church housing the tombstones of the three shepherd children: Lucia, Jacinta, and Francisco.
