Catamaran Cetacean Spotting Along the South Coast of Madeira
Sail the Atlantic in search of whales, dolphins, and sea turtles off the dramatic cliffs of Madeira
This Madeira whale watching catamaran tour brings you face to face with wild cetaceans in their natural habitat, cruising the rich Atlantic waters along Madeira's southern coastline. The experience is designed for all ages and comfort levels, with qualified crew guiding every moment of the journey.
Aboard a stable and spacious catamaran, guests spend three hours navigating one of the most biodiverse stretches of ocean in the North Atlantic. Resident and migratory species frequent these waters year-round, giving every departure a genuine chance of wildlife encounters.
When wind conditions allow, the sails are raised for a quieter, more immersive passage along the coast. During summer months, the route includes a swimming stop beneath the towering cliffs of Cabo Girão, one of the highest sea cliffs in the world at 580 metres above sea level.
The crew provides multilingual commentary throughout, covering cetacean biology, local marine ecology, and the nautical history of the island. This combination of education and exploration makes the trip suitable for families, solo travellers, and nature enthusiasts alike.

What to Expect
Guests check in at Funchal Marina at least 30 minutes before the scheduled departure. The crew completes a safety briefing and welcomes everyone aboard the catamaran.
The catamaran departs and heads west along Madeira's southern coastline. When wind conditions are suitable, the sails are hoisted for a relaxed and scenic coastal passage.
The crew actively scans the waters for dolphins, whales, and sea turtles. Multilingual commentary provides identification and context for each species encountered during the trip.
In the summer season, the catamaran anchors near the base of Cabo Girão so guests can swim and snorkel in the sheltered Atlantic waters beneath one of the world's tallest sea cliffs.
The catamaran makes its way back to the marina, completing the three-hour round trip. Guests disembark at the same point of departure.
