Tour Itinerary
Guests meet the guide at the Glacier Lagoon parking lot in Vatnajokull National Park, located at Jokulsarlon. Arriving 15 minutes before the scheduled departure is recommended to allow time for restroom use, as none are available at the glacier.
The group boards a 4x4 vehicle and travels toward the glacier, turning onto an F-Road roughly 10 minutes into the journey. The full drive from the lagoon parking lot to the glacier parking area takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes, with the guide narrating the history of the surrounding landscape along the way.
At the glacier parking lot, the guide distributes all necessary gear, including crampons, an ice axe, a harness, and a helmet with a headlamp. Guests then take a 30-minute hike across flat, slightly rocky ground to reach the entrance of the Crystal Ice Cave.
Guests spend 2 to 3 hours exploring the cave's chambers while receiving hands-on photography instruction. The guide captures images of guests from optimal positions throughout the cave and explains its geological formation and composition during the visit.
After the cave session, the group moves onto the glacier to photograph crevasses, icefalls, and panoramic viewpoints of the landscape below. Because the glacier surface is in constant motion, no two visits ever produce the same images.
The tour concludes with a hike back to the glacier parking lot followed by a 30-minute drive back to the Glacier Lagoon meeting point. Guests say farewell to the guide with a full set of images from inside one of Iceland's most dynamic natural formations.
