Private Bespoke Glacier Lagoon Tour from Reykjavik
A fully tailored journey through South Iceland's waterfalls, black sand beaches, and drifting icebergs
This private glacier lagoon tour takes you on a 14-hour immersive drive along South Iceland's Ring Road, visiting iconic natural landmarks and quiet corners that standard group tours rarely reach. Your guide shapes every stop around your pace, curiosity, and interests throughout the day.
Departing Reykjavik, the route passes through farmland, lava fields, and glacier-fed river valleys before reaching a succession of waterfalls on the southern coast. The journey continues through volcanic shorelines, towering sea cliffs, and coastal villages before arriving at one of Iceland's most celebrated natural wonders.
The itinerary balances widely recognized highlights with lesser-visited sites such as the mossy canyon of Fjaðrárgljúfur and the historic settlement of Kirkjubæjarklaustur. Optional activities at the glacier lagoon, including boat rides and guided kayaking, allow guests to engage with the landscape at closer range.
Throughout the day, the guide adjusts the schedule in response to weather, light conditions, and group preferences, ensuring the experience remains personal and unhurried from start to finish.

Itinerary Overview
The first major stop includes Seljalandsfoss, where a path leads behind the falling water for an unusual viewing angle. A short walk nearby leads into a narrow canyon concealing Gljúfrabúi, a waterfall that remains invisible from the road. Waterproof footwear and a coat are advised, as spray from both falls is substantial.
Skógafoss is one of Iceland's widest and most forceful waterfalls, with steps leading to an elevated viewing platform and the beginning of the Fimmvörðuháls hiking trail. The surrounding area includes the Skógar Folk Museum, a collection of around 8,000 regional artifacts spread across six historic buildings. The waterfall has appeared in productions including Thor: The Dark World and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.
Reynisfjara offers a dramatic shoreline of black basalt columns, a small sea cave, and the offshore Reynisdrangar rock stacks formed, according to local folklore, when trolls turned to stone at sunrise. The nearby Dyrhólaey promontory provides sweeping views over the coastline. Visitors are advised to stay well clear of the waves, which can be unpredictable and dangerous.
The coastal village of Vík offers views of the Reynisdrangar formations from a different angle and a hillside church that makes for a notable photograph. Further east, Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon stretches roughly two kilometers in length and drops up to 100 meters in depth, with walking paths along its rim. The canyon was formed during the last Ice Age through gradual glacial erosion.
Jökulsárlón is a glacial meltwater lake fed by the Breiðamerkurjökull outlet glacier, now recognized as Iceland's deepest lake at 284 meters. Icebergs calved from the glacier drift slowly toward the sea while seals frequently rest on the floating ice or swim among it. Optional boat tours — including an amphibian vessel, a speedboat, and guided kayaking — are available for an additional fee.
Directly across the Ring Road from the lagoon, Diamond Beach is part of the Breiðamerkursandur glacial outwash plain. Ice fragments washed ashore from the lagoon settle on the black sand, their clarity catching the light in a way that gives the beach its name. The contrast between pale ice and dark volcanic sand creates one of the most photographed scenes in Iceland.
