Private Fálkaklettur Via Ferrata Tour Near Reykjavik
Scale Falcon Rock on a guided iron-path climb with panoramic views over the Atlantic and the Reykjavik skyline.
The Fálkaklettur Via Ferrata is one of the most rewarding outdoor experiences available within easy reach of Iceland's capital, combining technical climbing with breathtaking coastal scenery. A certified instructor leads each private session, ensuring safety and confidence at every vertical metre.
Via ferrata, meaning iron path in Italian, was developed in the European Alps as a way to make steep rock faces accessible to people without traditional climbing skills. The route at Falcon Rock follows fixed steel cables bolted directly into the cliff, allowing participants to clip in with specialist harness equipment and ascend terrain that would otherwise demand years of training.
The tour departs from the Mt. Esja parking lot, a landmark just outside Reykjavik that is familiar to most visitors. The full experience, including the approach walk, the climb itself, and the descent, fits comfortably within two to three hours, making it a practical half-day addition to any Iceland itinerary between April and October.
Being a private tour, the pace and instruction are tailored entirely to the participant. All safety equipment is provided on the day, so no prior gear is needed. The summit area delivers unobstructed views across Faxaflói Bay toward Reykjavik city, a reward that is hard to match anywhere else this close to the capital.

Itinerary
Participants meet the instructor at the Mt. Esja parking lot. Helmets, harnesses, and via ferrata lanyards are fitted and adjusted to ensure a correct and comfortable fit before setting off.
The group follows a trail from the parking area up toward the base of Fálkaklettur. The instructor provides a briefing on technique and safety protocols during the walk.
Clipped into the fixed steel cable system, participants climb the rock face step by step under the direct guidance of the instructor. The route is rated challenging and involves sustained vertical sections.
At the top of Falcon Rock, the climb opens up to unobstructed views across Faxaflói Bay toward Reykjavik. Participants are encouraged to pause, take in the scenery, and have a snack before descending.
