Itinerary
Participants gather at the Sólheimajökull Glacier parking lot, where restrooms are available before departure. The guide will be stationed near the Ice Pic Journeys vehicle, and the tour departs promptly as scheduled.
The group is fitted with crampons, ice axes, harnesses, helmets, and headlamps. A thorough safety briefing covers glacier hazards, communication protocols, and basic movement techniques before setting out.
A 20 to 30 minute walk across mostly flat terrain with some rocky sections leads to the edge of Sólheimajökull. The guide sets a pace suited to the group and provides context about the glacier's formation along the way.
Once on the ice, the group treks through an active glacial landscape featuring crevasses, ice ridges, and vivid blue formations. This section also reinforces crampon technique and awareness of glacier movement.
The guide introduces front-pointing, axe placement, and climbing commands before participants attempt their first wall. Routes are progressively adjusted, with vertical and overhanging options available for those seeking greater challenge.
