Golden Circle with Glacier Adventure
Tectonic ridges, erupting geysers, thundering waterfalls, and Iceland's second-largest glacier — all in one full-day private journey.
The Golden Circle with Glacier Adventure combines Iceland's most celebrated natural landmarks with an exhilarating snowmobile ride on Langjökull glacier, giving you a complete picture of the island's fire-and-ice character in a single 10-hour private tour.
Travelling in a Super-Jeep built for Iceland's variable highland terrain, you move efficiently between sites without the pace of a large group tour. Your guide keeps the experience focused on what you actually see and feel at each stop rather than rushing through a checklist.
The route threads together geology, medieval history, geothermal science, and glaciology. Each site reinforces the others, building a coherent understanding of why Iceland looks and behaves the way it does.
Langjökull adds a dimension that most Golden Circle day trips omit. Riding across the ice cap places you physically inside the landscape you have been observing from viewpoints, making the experience tangible rather than purely scenic.
Tour Highlights
Walk the Þingvellir rift valley where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates visibly diverge.
Watch Strokkur geyser erupt up to 40 metres into the air every four to eight minutes.
Stand at the edge of Gullfoss as glacial meltwater drops 32 metres into a narrow basalt gorge.
Ride a snowmobile across Langjökull, Iceland's second-largest glacier at 953 square kilometres.
Travel in a private Super-Jeep, keeping the itinerary flexible and the experience exclusively yours.
Visit a UNESCO World Heritage Site at Þingvellir, home to the world's oldest parliament, the Alþingi.
Explore a glacier that conceals geothermal hotspots and active volcanic systems beneath its ice.
Itinerary
The tour opens at Þingvellir, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that served as the seat of the Alþingi, the world's oldest parliament, for centuries before it relocated to Reykjavík. The park straddles the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, where the North American and Eurasian plates pull apart, producing a rift valley laced with fissures filled with exceptionally clear water.
The Geysir area gives its name to all geysers on Earth. The original Geysir spring is currently dormant, but the neighbouring Strokkur erupts reliably every four to eight minutes, sending a column of boiling water and steam up to 40 metres high. You have time to watch multiple eruptions and explore the surrounding hot spring field.
Gullfoss, meaning Golden Falls, carries meltwater from Langjökull glacier along the Hvítá river before it plunges in two stages into a 2.5-kilometre gorge roughly 20 metres wide. Glacial sediments give the water a distinctive brownish tint. Viewing platforms allow you to observe both the upper cascade and the deeper drop into the crevice below.
The final major stop is Langjökull, the Long Glacier, which covers 953 square kilometres and reaches elevations of up to 1,450 metres. Here you board a snowmobile and ride across the ice cap, an activity that transforms the glacier from a distant backdrop into an immediate physical environment. The glacier feeds the Hvítá river system you traced from Gullfoss earlier in the day.
