Half-Day Van Tour of Sete Cidades Lakes, Azores

The tour starts with a short briefing at the meeting point, where your guide outlines the route and what to expect. From here the group boards the van and heads toward the island's interior.

Your first stop is a traditional Azorean pineapple greenhouse, where cultivation takes place year-round in volcanic-heated conditions. You can observe fruit at various stages of development and taste the signature pineapple liqueur.

The van climbs to Pico do Carvao at the heart of the island, offering a rare dual-coast panorama. On a clear day you can look north toward the Atlantic and south toward the calmer waters of the southern shoreline in a single glance.

Arriving in the parish of Sete Cidades, the group pauses at the lakeside for a comfort break and to take in the vivid blue water of the caldera lake. This is a good opportunity for photography at water level before the climb to the viewpoint.

On the ascent to the Vista do Rei the route passes beside Lagoa de Santiago, the smaller green lake within the same caldera. The viewpoint itself frames the entire crater, revealing the scale of the ancient volcanic structure and both lakes at once.

The tour returns to the city via the southwestern coast of the island, offering glimpses of cliffside scenery and coastal villages along the way. Participants are dropped back near the starting area.
