Lodè: Trekking on Montalbo
Conquer the ridges of one of Sardinia's most dramatic mountains on a full-day expert hike.
This full-day trekking experience on Montalbo mountain takes expert hikers along ancient mule tracks to two commanding summits, offering sweeping views that span the width of Sardinia.
The route covers 14 km with 350 m of elevation gain, leading to the peaks of Ferulargiu at 1057 m and Corru de sa Mandra at 983 m. From these vantage points, the panorama stretches across wild Barbagia, the Baronia lowlands, and the distinctive silhouette of Tavolara Island rising from the sea.

Itinerary
The trek begins in the town of Lodè, the gateway to the Montalbo massif. The guide briefs the group on the route and safety procedures before setting off on the trail.
The group follows traditional mule tracks that wind steadily upward through dense Mediterranean scrub and rocky outcrops. This section reveals the first signs of the area's endemic plant life.
The first and highest peak of the day rewards hikers with a vast 360-degree panorama. On clear days, both the Tyrrhenian coast and the interior of Barbagia are visible simultaneously.
The route continues along the exposed ridgeline connecting the two summits. This section offers continuous views and is the most likely area to observe golden eagles soaring overhead.
The descent follows a different path back toward the starting point, completing a circular route of approximately 14 km. The guide leads the group back to Lodè to conclude the experience.
