Herculaneum Daily Tour from Naples
Walk through the streets of an ancient Roman city frozen in time by the fury of Vesuvius
On 24 October 79 AD, Mount Vesuvius erupted with catastrophic force, burying the Roman city of Herculaneum under a thick layer of volcanic material. This Herculaneum guided tour brings you face to face with one of the world's most remarkably preserved archaeological sites, offering an intimate window into everyday Roman life.
Unlike its more famous neighbour Pompeii, Herculaneum is compact and walkable, which allows for a more immersive and personal exploration. The site was rediscovered in the 18th century and has since been celebrated for the extraordinary state of preservation of its buildings, mosaics, and artefacts.
A knowledgeable local guide will lead you through the ancient streets, narrating the stories of the people who once lived here. From elaborately decorated private homes to public baths, each structure reveals a different facet of Roman urban life and the sudden catastrophe that ended it.
Tour Highlights
Explore the House with the Mosaic Atrium, one of Herculaneum's finest examples of Roman domestic architecture.
Discover the stunning House of the Mosaic of Neptune and Amphitrite, celebrated for its vivid and well-preserved wall mosaics.
Visit the Terme del Foro, the ancient public baths that served as a social hub for the city's residents.
Observe the House of the Cervo, featuring remarkable decorative elements that reflect the tastes of wealthy Roman citizens.
Stroll the original Roman streets, which are narrower and more intimate than those of Pompeii, creating a sense of stepping directly into the past.
