Itinerary
Guests meet the guide 15 minutes before the scheduled start in the bus parking lot adjacent to the restroom facilities. The guide stands beside the Ice Pic Journeys 4x4 vehicle. Restrooms are available here, as none exist at the glacier itself.
The group boards a 4x4 and heads toward Vatnajökull Glacier, turning onto an F-Road after roughly 10 minutes. The guide narrates the geological and historical context of the landscape during the drive.
At the glacier parking area, the guide distributes crampons, ice axe, harness, helmet with headlamp, and rental hiking boots if pre-booked. The group then walks a mostly flat trail with minor rocky sections to reach the glacier's edge.
Once on the ice, guests explore blue ice caves, moulins, and sculpted ridges under continuous guide supervision. The pace adjusts to the comfort level of all participants, making the hike manageable for beginners.
The guide leads a dedicated photography session on the black sand of Diamond Beach, where washed-ashore icebergs provide a striking foreground. The session continues at Fjallsárlón or Jökulsárlón Lagoon for additional portrait and landscape shots.
