Berlenga Island Boat Trip with Glass-Bottom Cave Tour and Snorkeling Kit
Explore the caves, reefs, and crystal-clear waters of one of Portugal's most protected natural reserves.
This Berlenga Island boat trip combines a scenic crossing from Peniche with a guided glass-bottom boat visit to the island's famous sea caves and a snorkeling kit for independent underwater exploration. The route passes through a UNESCO-recognized biosphere reserve where marine biodiversity and dramatic coastal geology meet. It is one of the most complete half-day ocean experiences available on Portugal's Silver Coast.
Berlenga Grande is the main island of the Berlengas archipelago, located roughly 12 kilometres off the coast of Peniche. Access is strictly regulated to protect the local ecosystem, and the number of daily visitors is capped by national conservation authorities. Booking in advance and registering on the BerlengasPass platform before arrival is not optional — it is a legal requirement enforced at embarkation.
The glass-bottom lancha tour lasts approximately 25 minutes and passes through the Blue Grotto and surrounding sea tunnels, giving passengers a close view of the submerged rock formations and marine life without entering the water. After the cave visit, guests receive a full snorkeling kit — mask, tube, and fins — to explore the shallows independently during their free time on the island. A wetsuit can be added for an additional fee, subject to availability.
Departures operate from the Feeling Berlenga stand at Peniche Marina, and the crossing is made aboard one of four available vessels: a catamaran, sport yacht, or semi-rigid inflatable, assigned according to group size and daily conditions. The company reserves the right to cancel or postpone trips due to adverse weather, low passenger numbers, or force majeure events, in which case no charge is applied to the customer.
