Benagil Cave & Dolphin Watching Boat Tour from Lagos
Two iconic Algarve encounters in a single two-and-a-half-hour journey along Portugal's Atlantic coastline.
This Benagil Cave and dolphin watching tour combines a guided open-water wildlife encounter with a visit to one of the Algarve's most celebrated sea caves, led by marine biologists aboard a modern speedboat departing from Lagos Marina.
The first half of the journey heads into the Atlantic in search of wild dolphin pods, with onboard marine biologists explaining the behaviour, social dynamics, and conservation status of up to six species known to inhabit these waters. The vessel operates with twin Hydrojet Propulsion Systems, reducing underwater noise and supporting responsible wildlife observation.
After the dolphin segment, the route follows the dramatic Algarve cliffline east to Algar de Benagil, a sea cave renowned for its natural skylight dome and sculptural rock formations. The return leg to Lagos Marina offers uninterrupted coastal scenery and ample time for photography.

How the Tour Unfolds
Guests arrive at Marina de Lagos at least 15 minutes before the scheduled departure. The crew conducts a brief safety briefing before boarding Hurricane.
The vessel heads out from Lagos into open Atlantic waters, where the marine biologist begins scanning for dolphin activity using knowledge of known local feeding and socialising areas.
Once dolphins are located, the crew positions the vessel at a respectful distance to observe natural behaviour. The marine biologist provides commentary on the species encountered, group dynamics, and conservation context.
The route continues east along the Algarve cliffline, passing notable sea stacks, arches, and grottoes before reaching the Benagil area near Lagoa.
The vessel enters or approaches Algar de Benagil, allowing guests to observe the cave's distinctive domed ceiling and interior beach. The guide provides context on the cave's geological formation.
The tour concludes with a scenic return along the coast to Marina de Lagos, offering further views of the Algarve's cliff formations before disembarkation.
